Water flow and temperature is controlled by the handle which mixes the hot and cold water flow through a cartridge. When considering a mixer tap be sure to check with your plumber if there is currently a three piece tap, in case additional plumbing is needed.
Three piece bath or shower taps feature one central spout and two separate temperature controls for ease of use. If you are after a quick renovation without moving plumbing or looking to create a heritage / french provincial look don't hesitate with a three piece set.

Most shower mixer handles and faceplates are not interchangeable with the in-wall components. This means that if you want to update the look of your shower mixer you will likely need to change the entire unit, including the component behind the wall.
