How do I pair my smart device to my mobile's personal hotspot?
In order to pair a smart device to a personal hotspot, you will require a 2nd phone. This 2nd phone will provide a WiFi network to your phone and the smart device will be paired to this network. This is called personal hotspot on iPhone or mobile tethering on Android.
To do this, using phone 2, navigate to 'Settings', tap on 'WiFi' and then turn on 'personal hotspot' or 'mobile tethering' depending on your device. You will see a password displayed.
On your phone (1), go to 'settings' and then 'WiFi', tap on phone 2's hotspot network from the available list. You will then need to enter the hotspot password.
Once connected, you are now using the phone 2's Internet.
Get the smart device into pairing mode again and re-add it to the app. This time you will enter the hotspot password when prompted for the WiFi password. As long as you are near the smart device with both phones and passwords entered correctly, the smart device should pair.
How do I reset the password on my Brilliant Smart App?
To reset your password when logged into the Brilliant Smart app, tap on 'me' in the bottom right corner, then 'settings', then 'account', then 'account and security', and finally 'change login password'.
Or to reset the password when logging in, tap on 'reset password' at the bottom of the login page. Follow the steps sent via email to reset the account password.
Is it correct that the Brilliant Smart App and website accounts are not linked?
Yes, the website and app are not linked. This means that you will need to register a new account on the Brilliant Smart App for logging in.
Is there a Brilliant Smart Desktop App?
The Brilliant Smart App is only available for download on a phone or tablet. They do not have a desktop app available at this stage.
Do the Brilliant products work with 5G modems?
Brilliant products need to be connected to a network that is 2.4GHz, they cannot be connected to 5GHz networks.
5GHz is not the same as 5G though. If you have a 5G modem, Brilliant products should still work so long as there is a 2.4GHz network (there is usually a 2.4GHz and 5GHz network available for modems).
Can I share the Brilliant Smart Home devices with other household members?
Yes, you can. If you would like to provide other users with access you can do so by inviting them to share your ‘home’ using the steps below.
1.Tap on “Me” in the bottom right corner
2. Tap on “Home Management”
3. Tap on the selected home for which you would like to add a member
4. Tap “Add Member”
You can now invite the new member using their existing Brilliant Smart account (tap app account) OR invite them via text message or email, for which they will be prompted to create a new account. Once the new member accepts their invitation they will be given access to devices in the selected home.
If you would like to ‘leave’ the home and transfer the ownership to another user, simply go back to home management, tap on your home name and select the option to “leave home”. You can then transfer the home ownership to the new member.
Do the Brilliant Smart Home devices have IFTTT compatability with other brands?
Although the Brilliant Smart App has IFTTT support, the useability of IFTTT is dependant on the product and whether or not it has the IFTTT support.
This is because the products that do work with IFTTT have been registered by Brilliant on the IFTTT platform.
So just because the Brilliant Smart App supports IFTTT, it does not mean that other branded products will be able to work on Brilliant Smart AND IFTTT. It will all depend on whether or not the other brand has registered the product with IFTTT or not.
To find out if the product is registered with IFTTT, Brilliant suggests checking out the product on the brands website - the feature should be listed on the specifications or instructions.
How do I add a 'Widget' or 'Shortcut' on one of my Brilliant Smart Home devices?
In order to add a widget for one of your smart products:
1. Tap into one of your Brilliant Smart Home devices
2. Tap the ‘edit’ button in the top right corner, then tap “add to home screen” and this will allow you to create a widget for the selected product. This can then be added to the home screen of your iPhone etc.
Can I use Siri with my Brilliant Smart devices?
Most products can be used with Siri shortcuts by utilising the 'sequence' function on the app.
In order to do this, tap on 'smart' in the middle of the home screen, then select 'sequence'.
Once you have created a sequence, an option will appear to 'add to Siri'.
Why are my Brilliant Smart devices no longer working with my new modem?
If you have changed WiFi modems then you will need to reconnect all of your WiFi devices to the new network, including Brilliant Smart devices.
The only way to avoid this is to log in to your new modem and change the SSID and password to the exact same details as your previous network, then your devices would automatically reconnect.
How do I link my Brilliant Smart device to my Amazon Alexa?
To link your Brilliant Smart account to Alexa, open the Alexa app and tap 'add device', 'skills', and then search for the 'Brilliant Smart' skill.
It is important that you enter your Brilliant Smart email address and the correct password.
Please note that the Amazon account must be set to Australia. If your account is not set to Australia, the skill will not appear. To change the account location, simply log in to Amazon.com and navigate to the location settings.
If you need to confirm which email you used for your Brilliant Smart account, open Brilliant Smart and tap “Me” in the bottom right, tap your account name at the top of the screen, then tap “account and security” and this will display your email address – this is what you need to enter into Alexa.
If the password is incorrect or you have forgotten it, please log out of Brilliant Smart then use the reset password link to reset your password. Once you have changed your password, you can enter the new details in Google Home to link the skill.
How do I link my Brilliant Smart device to my Google Home?
