The Western Weekender – Makeover time
The Western Weekender discovered that a new renovation doesn’t have to break the bank, and can be done in a completely different way than ever before (and without the extra price tag).
‘Renovating your bathroom can be a costly exercise. But it doesn’t have to drain the bank balance with these tips from Josh Mammoliti, Managing Director of The Blue Space. Start by setting out a plan and a budget. Consult your trades and any retailers you work with to get their advice – their expertise can help save you money in the long run.
If you’re up to the task consider getting your trades to disconnect electrical and plumbing and then demo your old bathroom yourself. If you want to help out, but don’t feel confident doing it alone, you can always offer to work with your trades as a labourer.
Changes to plumbing and electrical can add extra cost to your renovation so to save yourself some money consider keeping the existing electrical fittings and plumbing where they are. It may be tempting to go for the cheapest option when it comes to fittings but investing up front in good quality products will potentially save you money in repairs and call backs in the long run. Avoid complex feature tiles and instead choose large square or rectangular tiles which are the fastest, easiest and cheapest ways to tile.’
